Small Grants Fund

As part of our commitment to generate learning from our portfolio and support the further development of our grantees, CJRF created the small grants program for current grant partners.

Numerous opportunities exist for CJRF partners to learn – from each other and others in the sector – how to best grow grassroots movements, enable frontline communities to adapt and increase resilience to climate-related shocks, and more. The CJRF Small Grants Fund seeks to support these efforts as part of our learning program.

The below gives a snapshot of what partners have enabled with this funding so far:

  • Community paralegals pivoted to online platforms and continued their support of community land registration during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Representatives from multiple partners spoke for their communities at the UN Climate Change Conferences in Madrid (COP25) and Glasgow (COP26)

  • Kenyans traveled to Tanzania for a learning exchange to discuss tactics for successfully registering community lands

  • Indigenous youth are better supported to engage with climate change advocacy and policy as a result of a youth needs assessment in the Arctic

  • Communities received the necessary food, handwashing infrastructure, and face masks they needed to respond to COVID-19

  • People in remote or disconnected areas were able to connect to global spaces and conversations with their new laptops and improved internet services at the onset of COVID-19

  • Partner staff engaged in a series of staff workshops on strengths-based management training, community-based participatory research, equity-centered community design, and personal and community care.

  • Women and youth engaged in a 5-day workshop on leadership and climate change to equip them with the skills to become strong leaders for climate resilience in their areas

  • Youth partners attended the South by Southwest Conference and hosted a panel and brunch around the campaign “Everyone VS Climate Change”. Read more here.

Why a Small Grants Fund?

The Small Grants Fund enables partners to conduct exchanges, attend conferences or workshops, travel for unexpected outreach opportunities, and collaborate with other partners on “lessons learned,” research, reports, and other media products.
