On October 20, 2021, CJRF hosted the first webinar in a three-part series on how aspects of identity link to climate justice and resilience. Webinar participants head from a panel of CJRF grant partners and used breakout discussions to explore how gender plays into people’s abilities to thrive in a warming climate.

DRCSC works with the rural poor in the Sundarbans. For nearly 30 years, the organization has used scientific management of natural resources and community-based initiatives to improve the food and livelihood security of those living there. This includes teaching adaptable farming techniques, like developing a raised bed system that allows excess water to drain or growing crops in bags, a term known as sack cultivation.

Social movements and grassroot activists are calling on funders across the globe to step up to protect the lives and rights of those most affected by the climate crisis. In July, CJRF hosted two climate finance webinars to share lessons from grantee partner and funder experiences.

Maria Alejandra Escalante is a queer, feminist researcher from Colombia and the climate and environmental justice advocacy officer for FRIDA|The Young Feminist Fund. Escalante spoke with the CJRF about her work and why she sees redistribution of power and resources as fundamental in the fight for climate justice.

Farhana Yamin is a lawyer and climate policy expert who has advised leaders from small island states and vulnerable countries on climate negotiations for more than 30 years. Yamin spoke with CJRF about her work and how she sees the next generation answering the call of climate justice.
