Women-Led Solutions in Northern Kenya
The Queen of Peace Initiative is a community-based organization led by Indigenous women and youth working in the arid and conflict-prone Isiolo County, Northern Kenya. In a region where pastoralist communities face increasing droughts, conflict over natural resources, and cultural disintegration, Queen of Peace Initiative puts women at the heart of climate resilience and peacebuilding. The organization emerged from the realization that women—who bear the burden of household care, food insecurity, and displacement—are also central to community solutions.

Why The Queen of Peace Initiative?
With CJRF funding, Queen of Peace Initiative will implement a two-year project that addresses the non-economic loss and damage caused by climate change, especially the erosion of cultural knowledge, social cohesion, and psychosocial well-being. The initiative combines dryland agroecology, small-scale enterprise development, trauma-informed care, and Indigenous knowledge preservation. Queen of Peace Initiative will also engage 1,000 women and youth as peacebuilders and climate leaders while reaching over 10,000 pastoralists with community resilience programs. CJRF supports Queen of Peace Initiative for its bold integration of gender justice, cultural survival, and environmental adaptation.
