Growing Inclusion: Women and Children with Disabilities at the Heart of Climate Response
Sangida Foundation is a women-led organization that advocate for the rights of women and children with disabilities and primary care givers in the pastoralist communities in Laikipia County, Kenya. Founded by mother with a child with disabilities, Sangida emerged to address harmful cultural norms that marginalize children with disabilities and their families and advocate for inclusion in all spaces. In a region deeply affected by prolonged drought, human-wildlife conflict, and ecological degradation, the organization offers both protection and voice to those often left behind in climate action and policy.

Why Sangida Foundation?
With CJRF support, Sangida will implement a locally anchored initiative to address non-economic losses experienced by women and children with disabilities. This includes strengthening an environmental youth group to lead tree planting and conservation efforts, revitalizing traditional medicinal herbs through a community seed granary, and establishing life gardens and sack farming techniques to improve nutrition and resilience. CJRF is funding Sangida for its innovative, culturally grounded work that combines care, environmental stewardship, and inclusion to protect the most vulnerable from climate-induced disruption.
