Training a New Generation of Eco-Friendly Farmers
Youth Volunteers Chad ACT4SDG (Chad) is a youth-led organization with a vision to build a resilient, green, and equitable Chad, where every young person is a driver of change for a sustainable and climate-just future. Through community-led action and innovation, they aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage an inclusive ecological transition in the Lake Chad Basin.
Using this $15,000 grant, Youth Volunteers Chad ACT4SDG will train 100 young people between the ages of 15–30 in N'Djamena, Nigeria, on climate-smart agricultural practices, including small-scale irrigation, composting, agroforestry, and eco-innovation like low-cost vertical gardens. They will also support two promising youth-led green micro-projects with both mentorship and seed capital. Participation will prioritize young people from low-income communities in N'Djamena who typically lack access to technical training and economic opportunities.
By the end of the program, at least 70% of participants will demonstrate a measurable improvement in their understanding and use of sustainable farming techniques. Chad currently faces low agricultural productivity due to climate change, so this initiative will help equip a new generation of young people with the skills to build resilient, eco-friendly farming systems in their communities.

Why Youth Volunteers Chad?
This group was selected by our Nigeria partner, DEAN, who chose Youth Volunteers Chad ACT4SDG because of their ability to mobilize young people at the grassroots level to address climate challenges in one of the most climate vulnerable areas, the Lake Chad region. DEAN noted that Youth Volunteers Chad’s work not only empowers young people, but it also builds long-term local capacity for climate resilience and environmental stewardship.
